FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
WARWICK – December 21, 2007 – Rhode Island’s harsh winter weather didn’t deter donors from showing up at Brave River Solutions’ recent blood drive.
Despite taking place on Friday, December 14, 2007, one day after the first major snow storm of the season, Brave River’s blood drive proved to be a success. The drive came at an especially crucial time, since shortages of all blood types typically occur during the summer and winter holidays.
The Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) was very happy with the turnout of Brave River’s first sponsored blood drive, which attracted more than three times the average first time turnout.
“The date of the drive turned out to be the day after a big snow storm. So, I really appreciate the great turnout from our friends, family, clients, and neighboring companies, who took time out of their schedules to donate,” said Jim McAssey, Vice President of Brave River. “A number of us at Brave River have had relatives or friends that have needed blood in the past, and donate on a regular basis. I am proud of our company's efforts to give back to the community and am looking forward to making this an annual event at Brave River.”
Brave River would like to thank all of the donors for their support in helping to make their first annual blood drive a success. They would also like to thank Panera Bread, for providing donors with a free loaf of bread for their donation.
Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood, yet only 5% of the eligible US population donates blood in any given year. For more information on the RIBC, visit www.ribc.org.
